It has been my honor to represent many wonderful neighborhoods in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan in Congress, and I am deeply grateful for the trust that voters have placed in me by re-electing me to this office throughout the years.
Together, we have stood strong as the city around us has changed, and we have worked hard to protect low income families, preserve affordable housing, make government more transparent and accountable, defend women’s rights and help our communities recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
But as Democrats, we need be stronger and more unified than ever. With the GOP descending further and further into an abyss of anger, bigotry and fact-denying ideology, we must stand tall and serve the people. We will have to be the voice of reason that addresses climate change; demands common sense immigration reform that respects immigrants and keeps families together; keeps guns out of the hands of criminals, terrorists and domestic abusers; and preserves a social safety net that protects all families in need.
I am proud of the work we have done together and the progress we have made, even against difficult odds. I thank you again for your support, and I look forward to the next time we meet.
